School of Cartooning and Animation for Missions (SoCAM)

The School of Cartooning and Animation for Missions (SoCAM) is a six-month, second-level YWAM school, accredited with the University of the Nations. Our goal is to train students in developing cartoons, comic books, tracts, and animated cartoon media in order to communicate the gospel in culturally relevant ways to the least reached peoples of the world. In many cultures, and especially within those in the ten-forty window, people prefer to receive information through pictures. Cartoons and animation can be powerful tools, particularly in Asia where people line up at stores to buy the latest comic book.

During the three-month lecture phase, guest speakers who are experts in their fields will provide hands-on training in the topics below, while students grow in their relationship with God and use media to reach out to the local community.

Field Assignment

After the three-month lecture phase, students will be directly involved in the production of a cross-cultural comic book or animated short film that shares the good news with an unreached people group. This will include onsite field research, consultations with local missionaries, and hours of guided production at our facility in Chiang Mai. The field assignment lasts three months.

Prerequisite

All students must have successfully completed a YWAM Discipleship Training School [DTS]. If you have not done a DTS, consider coming for a full year in 2012, and take the Create International DTS here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. THB 90,000 + (Lecture Phase Only)

Scholarships Available

Create Thailand offers scholarships to students with citizenship in World B and C countries, such as Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Brazil, Columbia, Mexico, South Africa, Nigeria, India, and China.
